Michael Anthony Jones (* 15. April 1969 in Kansas City , Missouri ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of the linebackers . In his career he played for the Oakland Raiders , the Pittsburgh Steelers and the St. Louis Rams in the National Football League (NFL). He became known for his tackle in Super Bowl XXXIV , which brought the St. Louis Rams victory. In the USA this event went down in history as "The Tackle".
Early years
Jones went to high school in his hometown. He later attended the University of Missouri .
NFL
Los Angeles Raiders / Oakland Raiders
After the 1991 NFL draft , the Los Angeles Raiders took Jones under contract. In 1992 he also played for Sacramento Surge in the WLAF , where he also won the World Bowl. In 1995 he had his first interception in the NFL.
St. Louis Rams
For the 1997 season, Jones moved to the St. Louis Rams . With the Rams, he reached after the 1999 season to Super Bowl XXXIV . Here Jones became famous because he stopped the last attack of the Tennessee Titans at the very last second with a tackle against Kevin Dyson , after a pass from Steve McNair and thus the Rams won the Super Bowl . In America this tackle went down in history as "The Tackle". Jones' tackle was voted "Second Greatest Super Bowl Moment of All Time" by ESPN and is considered one of the most dramatic sports moments ever in the US.
Pittsburgh Steelers
For the 2001 season, Jones moved to the Pittsburgh Steelers . He stayed here for two years.
Oakland Raiders
For the 2002 season he returned to the Oakland Raiders. Here he played three games.
Second stay with the Pittsburgh Steelers
During the 2002 season, he also returned to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He played six more games here before ending his career.
