Michael "Mike" Siegel (* 1967 ) is a German director and author .

Life

Mike (Michael) Siegel grew up in Magstadt near Stuttgart . From 1979 to 1986 he was a decorator and co-designer of the “Jugendfilmclub” program at the Sindelfingen Neue Central Kino . It was here that his passion as a collector of film photos and film posters began . During the shooting of Roland Emmerich's first science fiction films between 1983 and 1986, he was entrusted with smaller jobs. In 1997 he shot the feature film Pendechos (working title: Roadrunner ) recorded on Super 16 with a budget of 20,000  D-Marks .

In autumn 2010, Siegel's new film Opel GT - Driving the Dream was released on DVD , a documentary film about the cult sports car from the Opel GT company . Among the contributors are u. a. the designer of the GT, Dr. Erhard Schnell , racing driver Hans Herrmann , and tuner Günther Irmscher . In the winter of 2011 his book Steve McQueen - The Actor and his Films (co-author: Andrew Antoniades) was published in the USA , a 492-page, large-format, comprehensive work on the films of actor Steve McQueen, illustrated with 1020 photos . Mike Siegel writes booklets for German DVD and Blu-Ray publications and contributes audio commentary and film historical material for DVD and Blu-Ray releases of classic films. Since 2005 he has been writing for the American film magazine Cinema Retro .

About Peckinpah

In autumn 2000 he co-organized a Sam Peckinpah festival in Italy . In September 2002, the shooting of Siegel's Passion & Poetry - The Ballad Of Sam Peckinpah began in the USA and Mexico, which premiered at the Munich Film Festival in 2005. Siegel was able to work on the film about cult director Peckinpah (including The Wild Bunch 1968, Straw Dogs 1971, The Getaway 1972, Steiner - Das Eiserne Kreuz 1977) with Peckinpah's companions such as Kris Kristofferson , Ernest Borgnine , James Coburn , Ali MacGraw , David Warner , LQ Jones , Senta Berger and Vadim Glowna win. In 2003, his companion book Passion & Poetry - Sam Peckinpah in Pictures was published in Germany . Together with the Cineteca di Bologna Siegel organized another Peckinpah festival in Italy in 2006. In 2007 Siegel co-produced a 2-disc DVD edition of Peckinpah's previously indexed film Straw Dogs , followed in 2010 by the DVD special edition of Peckinpah's debut film Companions of Death . Finally, in spring 2011, the Blu-ray for Peckinpah's Steiner - Das Eiserne Kreuz, with extensive bonus material . In 2013 and 2014 the Blu-ray Special Edition for Convoy (published in Germany and the United Kingdom ), Die Killer Elite (in France and the USA) and Bring mir die Kopf von Alfredo Garcia (USA) followed. At the beginning of 2016, Siegel produced the German-language 3-disc media book on Bring mir die Kopf by Alfredo Garcia with Koch Media .

The main work Passion & Poetry - The Ballad Of Sam Peckinpah was released in August 2009 as a DVD special edition (2-disc, total running time: 270 minutes) and was shown at over a dozen international film festivals, among others. a. Munich , Bradford , Atlanta , Haifa and Locarno . The film was released on DVD in Japan at the beginning of 2016 , where it was shown in some arthouse cinemas in 2015.
