Memberships in football associations

Micronesia is not a member of the world football association FIFA and has therefore not yet taken part in the qualifying matches for the football world championships . Since 2001 the country has been considered a candidate for admission to FIFA.

Since the FSMFA is neither an associate nor a full member of the Oceania Football Confederation , it is not allowed to participate in their competitions. The team takes part in small regional tournaments, such as B. the Micronesian Cup.

Elo world ranking

In the Elo world rankings it was ranked 222 out of 234 at the end of August 2015. In an oceanic comparison, it was ranked 15 out of 20.

history

The senior team played their first two internationals against Guam in June 1999 . The games ended 0: 3 and 1: 4 from a Micronesian point of view. In July of the same year, the national team organized the Micronesia Soccer Cup, in which only one national team took part besides a hobby team with the Northern Mariana Islands . The game against the Northern Mariana Islands ended in a 7-0 win for Micronesia. To date, this is the only and therefore the highest victory of the national team. In 2003 , the team took part in the South Pacific Games (now Pacific Games) for the first time . All four preliminary round games were lost. The team couldn't score a single goal.

U-23 team / Olympic team

The Micronesia U-23 team took part in the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea . It was Micronesia’s first international appearance since the 2003 Pacific Games . The 2016 Olympic qualification was integrated into the tournament . A qualification for the final tournament would not have been possible due to the lack of membership in FIFA . The team played in Group A against the U-23 / Olympic teams of Tahiti , Fiji and Vanuatu . In the first game against Tahiti they lost 0:30. This result was the setting of the highest ever victory at the Pacific Games (1971: Tahiti won against the Cook Islands). Two days later they lost 0:38 to Fiji . The result was the highest victory in international football. The final game against Vanuatu was lost 0:46. This "broke" the record set two days earlier. However, the games are not rated as an international match by FIFA, nor is Micronesia a member of the world association. Therefore, the results do not find an entry in the list of the highest victories . The team from Micronesia finished the preliminary round with 0 points and a goal difference of 0: 114.
