The national soccer team of the Cook Islands is the selection team of the Pacific island nation of the Cook Islands .

The Cook Islands are a member of the world football association FIFA and the regional association OFC . So far, the team has not yet managed to qualify for a soccer World Cup . At the OFC Nations Cup you were eliminated in the preliminary round when you participated twice.

The Cook Islands at the World Cup

The first official FIFA tournament for the Cook Islands was qualifying for the 1998 World Cup in France . In the Polynesian group of the Oceania zone, the team played against Samoa (1: 2) and Tonga (0: 2). After two defeats, however, the team was eliminated.

Qualification for the 2002 World Cup also ended in the first round for the Cook Islands. In Group 2, the national team lost all group matches against New Zealand (0: 2), the Solomon Islands (1: 9), Tahiti (0: 6) and Vanuatu (1: 8) and finished last in the table, which resulted in the elimination Result. The only notable success was the narrow 2-0 defeat against New Zealand on June 8, 2001 in Auckland ( New Zealand ).

The first round of the 2006 World Cup in Germany ended for the national team of the Cook Islands also without a single victory against New Caledonia (0: 8), the Solomon Islands (0: 5), Tahiti (0: 2) and Tonga (1: 2) , a goal difference of 1:17 and a last place in the table in the first round.

In qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa , the team was eliminated in the first round. The Cook Islands played in a group with Fiji (0: 4), New Caledonia (0: 3), Tahiti (0: 1) and Tuvalu and finished fourth in the table. Against Tuvalu on September 1, 2007 in Apia with 4-1 the only win in the World Cup qualification in the history of the country.

In the first round of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, there were two wins in the first two games, but a defeat in the last game against American Samoa meant that first place was lost and the Cook Islands were eliminated in third.
