Mindaugas Kuzminskas (born October 19, 1989 in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian basketball player. Most recently he was active in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the New York Knicks .
Career
Kuzminskas initially played for the capital city clubs Sakalai Vilnius and SSK Perlas Vilnius , before moving to KK Šiauliai in 2008 . In 2007 he took part in the U-18 and 2009 in the U-20 European Championship. From 2010 to 2013 Kuzminskas was active for Žalgiris Kaunas . With this club he won the Lithuanian championship three times and the Baltic Basketball League championship twice .
In 2013, Kuzminskas moved to Spain for the club Unicaja Málaga , for which he played in the ACB league. As in his last year in Kaunas, he reached the intermediate round of the EuroLeague every season with Málaga , and during this time he developed into the team's top performer. With the Lithuanian national team , Kuzminskas reached the European Championship finals twice ( 2013 and 2015 ), and he also took part in the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games . He then moved to the NBA to the New York Knicks , from which he was released shortly after the beginning of his sophomore year there.
Others
Mindaugas Kuzminskas' mother Zita Kuzminskienė (nee Makselytė) played for the women's national basketball team of the USSR . His older brother Saulius Kuzminskas was active as a professional basketball player until 2015.
