Minnedosa is a small town with about 2,400 inhabitants in the southwest of the Canadian province of Manitoba .
history
The name of the city is derived from the Sioux expression for 'fast flowing water' .
The first white settler, John Tanner, set up a ferry across the Little Saskatchewan River in 1869 , and the construction of a bridge made it obsolete in 1879. The actual founder of the city is considered to be Joseph Armitage, who in 1879 bought some parcels of land on the river and organized the settlement of the area. The community became independent as early as 1883.
Between 1910 and 1912, a dam was built on the Little Saskatchewan River, which was used to generate electrical energy .
