history

The "Original": The Mississippi Queen on the Ohio River (2003)

The Mississippi Queen was in the Dutch shipyard De Hoop in Lobith on the Rhine built and ran 1987 from the pile . In some aspects it is a smaller replica of the stern-wheel steamer of the same name from New Orleans , which sailed the Mississippi and its tributaries between 1976 and 2008 .

The ship was initially registered in Nijmegen and operated on the Rhine and the IJsselmeer . For the sum of 7 million marks it came into the possession of the shipping company Captain Heinrich Prüsse and became the first paddle steamer in the port of Hamburg . The first voyage for the new employer was on November 15, 1998 from Cuxhaven over the Lower Elbe to Hamburg, where the ship was ceremoniously welcomed.

The Louisiana Star of the shipping company Rainer Abicht went into service only six months later.

The Mississippi Queen was sold for scrapping in 2019 for 400,000 . It is to be scrapped in Denmark from September 2019, after the Cruise Days 2019 .
