Misty May-Treanor Elizabeth (* 30 July 1977 in Los Angeles as Misty May ) is a former American beach volleyball player . Together with her partner Kerri Walsh , she won the gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, 2008 in Beijing and 2012 in London. She is one of the most successful beach volleyball players worldwide.

Career

Her parents Butch and Barbara were both volleyball players, and Misty May played beach volleyball at Santa Monica Pier when she was a child . Her father was a player on the US team at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico. She attended high school in Costa Mesa from 1991 to 1995, where she played volleyball and was already enjoying national success at that time, including being named the best young player in the USA by USA Today . She completed an education in movement sciences and is a fitness trainer.

May-Treanor played college volleyball at California State University, Long Beach with great success and won numerous awards in the NCAA . In 1997 and 1998 she was voted NCAA Player of the Year .

While she was still playing volleyball in college, she began professional beach volleyball with Holly McPeak as a partner on the AVP tour in 1999 . She was appointed to the American national volleyball team in 1999, but decided to only play beach volleyball.

2000 Summer Olympics

She is quoted as saying: "Volleyball is no longer fun." Instead, she wanted to win an Olympic medal with McPeak. Although she and her partner started the preparation late, the couple qualified for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney with three wins on the FIVB World Tour and consistently good placements , where they finished fifth.

After this success the duo split up and May-Treanor formed a new team with Kerri Walsh . From this point on, the two dominated both the FIVB Tour and the AVP , where they ended the 2003 season unbeaten with a total of 39 wins.

2004 Summer Olympics

In 2004 Misty May-Treanor was able to fulfill her dream of an Olympic medal for the first time, winning the gold medal with Walsh in Athens.

2008 Summer Olympics

May-Treanor and Walsh won the gold medal as defending champions at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing . They achieved their nineteenth consecutive tournament victory, the last tournament victory in a series of 112 games that the two remained undefeated.

May-Treanor took part in the ABC television show Dancing Dancing with the Stars with Maxim Tschmerkowski at the end of 2008 and withdrew from the show after her third appearance because she tore a Achilles tendon while training for the jive . She was operated on on October 7, 2008.

In 2010, Misty May-Treanor made a comeback on the World Tour alongside Nicole Branagh . The best place for May-Treanor / Branagh was a third place at the Grand Slam in Stavanger.

At the World Tour 2011 , Misty May-Treanor started again alongside Kerri Walsh with the aim of participating in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. After finishing second at the Brasilia Open in April, Misty May-Treanor injured her knee in the semi-finals of the Sanya Open at the end of April. May-Treanor / Walsh made an impressive comeback at the beginning of June when they won the Grand Slam in Beijing, and then the runner- up in Rome .

2012 Summer Olympics

At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, both won the gold medal for the third time in a row . Then May-Treanor ended her beach volleyball career.

May-Treanor has been married to MLB baseball player Matt Treanor since November 2004 and lives alternately in Coral Springs and Long Beach .
