Mogilno [ mɔˈɟilnɔ ] is a town in the Polish Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship and is located on the lake of the same name about 30 km northeast of Gniezno ( Gniezno ). Mogilno is the seat of the Powiat Mogileński and the town-and-country municipality of the same name with almost 25,000 inhabitants.

history

The place goes back to a settlement that was built in the 8th / 9th centuries. It was built in the 16th century on a hill near the lake. The Mogilno Monastery , a Benedictine abbey, was founded here in the 11th century . In 1398 the place received the Magdeburg city charter from King Władysław II Jagiełło bestowed. In the first partition of Poland , Mogilno also came to Prussia , where it remained until 1919. In 1773 the monks' ownership of the place ended. 1818 was county Mogilno , Posen set up, which was dissolved in 1975, but was re-established as part of the administrative reform 1,999th

The city is on the Poznań – Toruń railway line . In Mogilno there used to be lines to Barcin (with a train station in the Wszedzień part of the municipality), to Inowrocław (with train stations in the Szczeglin and Kunowo parts of the municipality) and to Orchowo (with stations in the Kwieciszewo, Gębice and Procyń parts of the municipality).
