Monaco marathon

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Monaco Marathon (French: Marathon de Monaco et des Riviera ) is a marathon in Monaco that has been organized by the Fédération Monégasque d'Athlétisme (FMA) since 1997 . Since 2008 it has been held in March after the date was previously in November until 2006. The event was canceled in 2007 due to the rescheduling. A special feature of this marathon is that the route leads through three countries (Monaco, France and Italy ). Due to the small number of inhabitants in Monaco, the proportion of local participants is very low. In 2009 it was around 3%.

A 10 km run has also taken place as part of the event since 2003.

Since the French local elections in 2010 were set to take place on March 21, the marathon was held as a half marathon within the borders of Monaco. The German Dennis Mehlfeld (1:08:56 h) and the American Heidi Freitag (1:25:32 h) won.

route

The marathon starts on Boulevard Albert 1er and then continues along the Côte d'Azur through the French towns of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and Menton to Ventimiglia, Italy . From there the course runs back to Monaco to the finish in the Stade Louis II . There are numerous tunnels to be passed along the route.
