Monika Burg alias Claude Farell (born May 7, 1918 in Vienna ; † March 17, 2008 in Mâcon ; born Paulette von Suchan or Paulette Koller ) was an Austrian - French actress .

Life

The daughter of a dentist Paulette Koller from Vienna attended several European schools because of her stepfather's diplomatic profession and spent a long time in Paris. After graduating from school, she took dance and acting lessons and then played theater in Brussels. She made her debut in Belgium on stage as Paula Varchi. In 1940 she made her feature film debut in Germany in the feature film Der Kleinstadtpoet . The following year she was seen under the name Paulette Koller in Annelie and under the French-sounding pseudonym Paulette Colar in a small role in the musical comedy Immer nur you (next to Johannes Heesters ). For her next film role in the comedy Two in a Big City , directed by Volker von Collande , she decided on a new stage name. Until the end of the Second World War she appeared as Monika Burg in several UFA productions, including a. in the disaster film Titanic . Her last film, “Die Schenke zur Ewigen Liebe”, which she shot in 1945 in Breslau and Babelsberg , was not completed due to the war. Allegedly, she fled the Russians from Berlin with her little daughter in a cardboard box and cycled to Paris .

Claude Farell and the Post-War Era

After the Second World War, Paulette von Suchan continued her acting career in French and Belgian films, among others. a. in the drama Schenke zum Vollmond with Simone Signoret , continued. To do this, she chose a new, less German-sounding pseudonym: Monika Burg first became Catherine Farell and finally Claude Farell - in Belgium she also appeared as Paula Viardi . Under this name, she worked from 1950 in French as well as in English and German productions.

As Claude Farell, she played leading roles in the comedy Wedding Night in Paradise (with Johannes Heesters in the male lead), in Clivia (alongside Peter Pasetti ), The Night Without Morals (alongside Gustav Knuth ) and the comedy Der Hochtourist (alongside Willy Millowitsch ). She also worked in the Edgar Wallace crime thriller Im Banne des Unheimlichen , the drama Hotel Adlon and, under the direction of Federico Fellini, in the drama The Idlers (as Alberto Sordi's sister ).

In the early 1970s, Claude Farell largely withdrew from film. It was only in 1978 that she took on one last television role in the mini-series In front of the court we see each other again (directed by Peter Weck ).

Claude Farell last lived in Mâcon , France, where she died in March 2008 shortly before her 90th birthday.
