The Axion de Montréal were a Canadian women's ice hockey team from Montréal , Québec , and played in the National Women's Hockey League from the 1998/99 season . In 2007 the club was dissolved and most of the players switched to the newly formed Canadian Women's Hockey League with the Stars de Montréal .

history

The origin of the Axion lies in a women's team called Ferland Quatre Glaces , which was converted into an ice hockey club in 1998 and was accepted into the Central Ontario Women's Hockey League as the Bonaventure Wingstar . With the conversion of the COWHL into the National Women's Hockey League in February 1999, gaming operations were further professionalized.

As president and partner of the club, as well as spokeswoman for the regional ice hockey association, France St. Louis shaped women's ice hockey in the province of Quebec for many years.

In 2005, the Axion represented the province of Quebec as winners of the Eastern Division at the Esso Women's Nationals , where they finished third. A year later, at the 2006 Amateur Championships, the Axion finished second behind the Brampton Thunder . In the same year, the Axion achieved the greatest success in the club's history by winning the NWHL Champions Cup .

After the 2006/07 season , the NWHL stopped playing and was replaced by the newly formed Canadian Women's Hockey League .
