The Morris CVF was a truck manufactured by Morris Commercial from 1938 to 1948 as the successor to the Morris C-Type . The type was the starting point for the development of a number of military and civilian trucks. Successor from 1948 was the Morris FV .

Model history

The Morris Motors CDompany made up in the 1920s as commercial vehicles exclusively of car models derived vans . In 1923, Morris acquired a manufacturing facility from EG Wrigley Ltd , a supplier to Morris. The company's commercial vehicle production was combined under Morris Commercial in the same year . The first model was the Morris T-Type , released in May 1924, with a payload of one ton. The vehicle was equipped with a four-cylinder petrol engine with side valves. The engine was based on components of the cars manufactured by Morris and delivered an output of 13.9 bhp (10.4 kW). The three-axle Morris D-Type followed in 1927 with a payload of two tons, which was also available as a military version. In 1930 Morris Commercial acquired the old Adderley Park facility in Birmingham from Wolseley Motor Company . This purchase offered the opportunity to expand truck production. Morris Commercial oriented itself towards heavier vehicles. A vehicle program with trucks with a payload of up to twelve tons was developed, but not all models made it to series production. In 1933, the Morris P-Type, called Leader , appeared with a payload of 2.5 tons, followed by the Morris C-Type with a five-ton payload. The successor to the C-Type was the Morris CVF , presented in 1937 , whose series production began the following year.

technology

The CFV was powered by a six-cylinder side valve engine, which delivered an output of 60 bhp (45 kW) with a displacement of 3.4 liters. After revision, the output could be increased to 70 bhp (52 kW) from 1940 and from 1945 to 85 bhp (63 kW). The vehicle was equipped with a three-speed manual transmission, but on request - and at an additional cost - it could also be delivered with a two-speed automatic transmission.

The Morris CFV was delivered as a flatbed truck , as a panel van and as a chassis for special bodies. Various superstructures were implemented on the chassis, such as buses , ambulances and fire engines . The payload was five tons. The type was also available as a tractor unit .

The series was also exported and was often found in the countries of the Commonwealth of Nations . Based on the CVF , the CDSW AA was created , an artillery tractor that was built until 1945 and was used in World War II and the Korean War . The chassis and drive of the CFV were also used in the Morris C8 , also an artillery tractor. The Morris-Commercial PV Van was also derived from the CFV . During the Second World War , the production of the CVF was temporarily throttled or completely stopped. In 1948 the Morris FV finally replaced the series.
