Mossyrock is a small town in Lewis County of middle-Southwest US -amerikanischen state of Washington . At the 2010 census , Mossyrock had 759 inhabitants.

Mossyrock lies at 46 ° 31'47 "north latitude and 122 ° 29'3" west longitude and extends over 1.1 km², which consists exclusively of land.

The place is about 6 miles west of Mossyrock Dam and 8 miles east of Mayfield Dam . These two dams dam the Cowlitz River , which flows into the Columbia River at Longview (across from Portland , Oregon ) .

Mossyrock is located southwest of Mount Rainier , the highest peak in the Cascade Range at 4,392 m . In the immediate vicinity of Mossyrock are the Mount Rainier National Park , the Snoqualmie National Forest and the Gifford Pinchot National Forest with the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument .

The closest locations are Morton , 11 miles east, Silver Creek, 7 miles west, and Harmony, 3 miles north. The closest major cities are Seattle (163 km north) and Portland, Oregon (152 km south-southwest).

US Highway 12 runs through Mossyrock and runs through almost the entire USA in a west-east direction. In the center of the city, the highway meets State Routes 122 .

history

The history of Mossyrock began in 1852 with the establishment of a trading post at the foot of a 61 meter high moss-covered rock .

In 1948 the place was officially raised to an independent municipality and was given city status.

In the official census in 2000 , the population was 486. These were distributed to 187 households in 115 families. The population density was 426.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. There were 215 residential buildings, which corresponded to a building density of 188.7 buildings per square kilometer.

The population in 2000 was 90.3 percent white , 0.2 percent African American , 1.9 percent Native American , and 0.2 percent Asian and 3.7 percent other. 3.7 percent said they came from at least two of these groups. 6.8 percent of the population were Hispanics belonging to any of the above groups.

29.6 percent were under 18 years of age, 11.3 percent between 18 and 24, 26.3 percent between 25 and 44, 19.3 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.4 percent 65 and over. The mean age was 32 years. For every 100 women there were statistically 93.6 men, 102.4 among those over 18 years of age.

The median income per household was 29,750  US dollars  (USD), the median family income 33,542 USD. The median income for men was $ 30,938 and that for women was $ 16,250. The per capita income was $ 12,216. Around 18.6 percent of families and 19.5 percent of the total population had their income below the poverty line .
