Mozart is a German name that can be traced back to about 1321 in Swabia , the area between the Lech , Danube and Allgäu . The original spelling is Moſzhart and means either dirty man or swampy wood, depending on the translation of the term Hardt or Hart. The word Hardt occurs to this day in many village names near Augsburg, Hart is even more common.

ancestors

Mozart's ancestors came from Swabia. His oldest known ancestor , the carpenter Hans Motzhart (* before 1506; † after 1567) is said to come from today Fischach gehörendem Weiler Heimberg . This can be concluded from the fact that he and his descendants were nicknamed "the Heimberger". His father is said to be Alter Motzhart, mentioned in Heimberg in 1487. In 1506 Hans Motzhart was first mentioned in a document in Leitershofen . In 1515 he acquired an interest-bearing Sölde from Kaisheim Monastery , which he and his descendants managed. This results in the following ancestry:

  1. Alterations Motzhart (mentioned 1487)
    1. Hans Motzhart (before 1506 – after 1567), mercenary in Leitershofen
      1. Leonhard Motzhart, mercenary in Leitershofen

        2. Jerg Motzhart (before 1570 – after 1608), village judge
