Mirko Drotschmann (born April 30, 1986 in Malsch , Karlsruhe district ) is a German journalist , book author and web video producer .

Life

During his school days, Drotschmann was editor-in-chief of the school newspaper and school spokesman at the Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium in Ettlingen , where he worked on the youth council from 2002 to 2004 and on the local council for the SPD until 2010 .

After graduating from high school, he sat in on the SWR and then worked there as a freelancer as well as a reporter and moderator at Dasding . After his community service he studied history and cultural studies at the University of Karlsruhe , at the same time he worked as a freelance journalist . He then worked on the ZDF children's program Logo and was a presenter for N-Joy and a freelance reporter for other broadcasters and the Stuttgarter Zeitung .

In 2013 and 2014 he completed a journalistic traineeship at SWR.

From October 2014 to December 2017 Drotschmann was a reporter and presenter at Logo (ZDF). He is also managing director of the production company objektiv Media GmbH, with which he produces formats for broadcasters, federal authorities, companies and NGOs.

Mirko Drotschmann is a member of the non-partisan state council for digital development and culture, which advises the Rhineland-Palatinate state government on digital issues. Drotschmann is also part of the health science think tank “iHealth” of the Handelsblatt editorial team .

At the end of March 2020, he started the three-part series A short story about ... (... the Middle Ages, ... the witch hunt, ... ancient Egypt) on ZDF's Terra X program .

He is married and has two daughters. He currently lives in Rheinhessen .

YouTube career

On his YouTube channel “MrWissen2go”, Drotschmann deals with current political and social phenomena. This channel has over 1.3 million subscribers and is part of the online media service funk of ARD and ZDF . In addition, Drotschmann has been moderating the YouTube channel “MrWissen2go Geschichte” (formerly “need-to-know history”) since 2017, on which he explains a topic from history every Thursday. This is also produced by funk .

In January 2015 Drotschmann initiated the campaign #YouGeHa ( YouTubers Against Hate), in which videos were collected from YouTubers who position themselves against racism , xenophobia and homophobia , among other things . The campaign won an audience award at the The BOBs Awards in 2016 .

In the course of the 2017 federal election , Mirko Drotschmann and three other YouTubers each conducted an interview with Chancellor Angela Merkel and her challenger Martin Schulz , which was broadcast live on YouTube .

From 2015 to April 2019 he moderated the YouTube channel, "MDR ZEITREISE2go" and the history magazine MDR Zeitreise on MDR television , on which he explains historical events and prominent figures in history. His successor is Janett Eger .
