The municipality of El Carmen Rivero Tórrez (also: Carmen Rivero ) is a district in the Santa Cruz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The municipality of El Carmen is one of three municipalities in the province of Germán Busch and includes the northern areas of the province. It borders the province of Ángel Sandoval to the north, the province of Chiquitos to the west, the province of Cordillera to the southwest , and the municipality of Puerto Suárez to the south and east .
The municipality extends between about 17 ° 47 'and 19 ° 00' south latitude and 57 ° 45 'and 59 ° 18' west longitude, its expansion from west to east is up to 150 kilometers and from north to south up to 140 kilometers .
The municipality comprises 22 municipalities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is the city of El Carmen Rivero Tórrez with 2,910 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the southern part of the district.
history
The El Carmen region has been populated since 1938. The municipality El Carmen was established by law of September 23, 1999 as the 3rd section of the province Germán Busch by dividing the northern half of the previous municipality Puerto Suárez.

The municipality of El Carmen is located in the Bolivian lowlands at the edge of the Pantanal , one of the largest inland - wetlands of the earth. The climate is subtropical and only has a short dry season in the winter months .
