The municipality of San Borja is a district in the Beni department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality of San Borja is one of four municipalities in the province of Ballivián and is located in the southeastern part of the province. It borders the Municipio Reyes in the northwest , the Municipio Rurrenabaque in the west, the Department La Paz in the southwest , the Province of Moxos in the south, the Province of Yacuma in the east , and the Municipio Santa Rosa de Yacuma in the north .

The largest town and administrative seat in the municipality is the city of San Borja with 17,520 inhabitants in the center of the municipality, the second largest settlement is Yucumo with 4,693 inhabitants. ( 2012 census )

The municipality of San Borja is located in the Bolivian lowlands, directly east of the Sierra Muchanes , a section of the foothills of the Cordillera Oriental . The region's climate is tropical and humid all year round ; the original vegetation is that of the tropical rainforest .

The mean average temperature of the region is 26 ° C (see climate diagram) and varies only marginally between 23 ° C in June and July and around 27 ° C from October to March. Annual rainfall is 1800 mm, with moderate monthly rainfall of 60 to 70 mm from June to September, and a pronounced rainy season from December to March with monthly rainfall of 200 to 300 mm.
