The Museumshof Bad Oeynhausen was opened in 1969 as the local museum of the East Westphalian spa town. Models for the museum were the Bad Zwischenahn open-air museum , the Bielefeld farmhouse museum and the Rahden museum courtyard, which was just under construction at the time . Originally only a single building was envisaged, the main building, which was moved there from 1965. The expansion into a courtyard was triggered in 1974 by the donation of a heuerling house. By 1993, five buildings were built on the 2,800 m² site. In addition, there was a court water mill with two mill ponds on the nearby Osterbach in the Sieker Valley.

On display is a courtyard typical of the Minden-Ravensberger area from the pre-industrial times of the 19th century. With a lot of volunteer work, demonstrations and lectures are offered, including a. on handicraft techniques (flax and wool spinning, basket weaving , lace making , quilting , knitting) and the Low German language. Since 2003 the museum has also been a branch of the Bad Oeynhausen registry office.
