The Mykonos Palace is a ferry of the Minoan Lines shipping company .

history

Europa Palace

The ship was built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy as Europa Palace for the Greek shipping company Minoan Lines . The keel was laid on August 23, 2000 and the launch on October 26, 2001. The completion of the ship took place on March 11, 2002, the commissioning on May 10, 2002. The ship started sailing under the Greek flag with home port Heraklion .

In 2007 the ship was briefly used on the Greece - Venice route. For reasons not known in detail, however, the ship was withdrawn from this a little later. With the commissioning of Cruise Europa in October 2009, the Europa Palace switched to the Venice - Patras route. From July 2012 the ship was owned by Minoan Italia and sailed under the Italian flag with home port Cagliari , in July 2012 the Italian shipping company Tirrenia di Navigazione chartered the ship and operated it as Amsicora with home port Naples . The Amiscora was deployed on the Civitavecchia - Cagliaria - Arbatax route from August 2012 . Operations ceased in January 2018.

In January 2018, Grimaldi Euromed acquired the ship and used it as Mykonos Palace with home port Cagliari between Palermo and Livorno from February 2018 . On June 9, 2018, Minoan Lines Shipping took over the ship again and used the Mykonos Palace in regular service between Chania / Souda on the Greek island of Crete and Piraeus. In February 2020 the ship was renamed Faistos Palace (the former Faistos Palace has since operated as Kydon Palace ) and was used on the Heraklion - Piraeus route.

Sister ship

The ship has a sister ship, the Olympia Palace .

Description and use

Unlike the Knossos Palace , which was built a little earlier and has almost the same dimensions, the ship is not designed as a "cruise ferry", but as a fast ferry. As Europa Palace , it operated with the identical Olympia Palace between Patras and Venice , until it was replaced by the new ships Cruise Olympia and Cruise Europa in 2009 and 2010 on the route between Patras and Ancona , where they offered the fastest crossing until 2006 were.

The ship offers the following entertainment options:

  • Swimming area with a separate children's pool
  • Casino / gambling area
  • shopping mall
  • movie theater
  • Large conference room for business travelers
  • Disco

There are nine cabin classes. All cabins have a toilet and shower, and many have a TV. The cabins are two to four-bed cabins. Luxury cabins have one or two beds. The ship has a total of 732 cabin seats as well as numerous Pullman and business seats. There is a special area on deck for pets.

600 cars or 150 trucks and 100 cars can be transported on the car decks.

Technical specifications

With a cruising speed of 29  knots , the ship is one of the fastest ferries in the world. It is powered by four Wärtsilä - diesel engines of the type 16V46C that their energy on two controllable pitch transmitted. The ship also has four transverse thrusters , two fore and two aft, in order to improve maneuverability when berthing and casting off. The ship's engines have a total output of 67,200 kW.
