Nachtzug D 106 is a television film from the Second German Television (ZDF) from 1964.

action

In 1964, a transit train ran between West Berlin and West Germany through the area of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), where it had to stop at a construction site. A young man from the GDR took advantage of this opportunity and jumped on the train unrecognized. He has no papers with him and wants to flee to the West, but he is dependent on the support of the western passengers, whom he desperately asks for help. The decision to help the refugee and thus to be guilty of assisting him to flee the republic or to hand him over to the authorities confronts each and every train passenger with an inevitable situation and forces them to make a personal decision that is strongly influenced by their character. The remaining travel time of the train is only about an hour until it reaches the inner-German border and the train is checked. In addition, the train is guarded by a transport policeman who regularly patrols the wagons . A lively discussion develops between the travelers and while some travelers offer their help to the man, others strictly refuse it so as not to get themselves into trouble. The time for a decision is running out and you finally decide on a plan, in which the train waiter is also informed. At the border control, the refugee should show the identity papers and the ticket of a fellow traveler who looks like him. He in turn changes the compartment and a fellow traveler then brings him the papers. But by chance the transport policeman notices the ID card that has fallen down and the plan is discarded. After the passengers start discussing again shortly before the end of the journey, the refugee, in his growing desperation, decides to commit a momentous act and jumps off the moving train.
