Trolleybus

Because of the Frankfurt topography with significant differences in altitude, a trolleybus line was initially planned at the end of the 1930s from the train station via Baumschulenweg and Birnbaumsmühle to Gronenfelder Weg. Finally, in 1942, the decision was made to open up the north of the city with an O-bus line on what was then bus line A. This ran from the north side of what was then Wilhelmplatz (today between Lenné-Passagen and Kaufland near the "Zentrum" stop) over Halbe Stadt, Sophienstrasse and Lennéstrasse to the northern Berliner Strasse.

Construction work on the overhead line system was well advanced when the Second World War brought it to a standstill. After that the project was not resumed. The concrete masts that had already been erected along the planned route were still in place until the 1990s.
