The association was founded in 1946 after several associations merged with each other under the name Napredak Kruševac. At the time of Yugoslavia , the club played alternately in the 1st and 2nd league of the country, which was accompanied by numerous promotions and relegations, and therefore received the reputation of being an elevator team .

The greatest success in the club's history is the achievement of the national cup final against Red Star Belgrade in 2000 . The club plays its home games at the Mladost Stadium .

history

1946–1959: The founding phase

The club was founded on December 8, 1946, when the three football clubs Zakić , Badža and Octobar 14 merged under the name Napredak Kruševac. The first game in the club's history was played against Makedonija in January 1947, a club from Skoplje , which ended in a 1-1 draw. The first goal for Napredak was scored by attacker Marko Valok, who later celebrated numerous successes with the Serbian top club Partizan Belgrade and was top scorer of the 1st Yugoslav league with 17th goals in the 1949/50 season . The club won its first title in 1949 when Napredak won the Serbian championship, at that time still a regional league in the former Yugoslavia , and thus rose to the 2nd Yugoslav league.

In the 1950/51 season, the club was runner-up and was therefore first-class, but was relegated to the 2nd division again in its debut season, more precisely to the IV Zona ( German : IV Zone), since the then 2 .Liga consisted of five sub-leagues. From the 1958/59 season Napredak Kruševac played in the newly formed 2nd division of the country.

1959–1981: upswing and decline

1976 Napredak rose under the direction of coach Vladica Popović as a master in the first division. In the decisive game they defeated Rad Belgrade 8: 2, Jovica Škoro scored four goals, Milomir Jakovljević three, and Dragiša Ćuslović one. In the top division Napredak could only hold one season, but they were already first class again in the season 1978/79. During this season they surprisingly defeated the Yugoslav top club Partizan in Belgrade 3-0. In the 1979/80 season Napredak was able to prevail against several top Yugoslav clubs and ended the season in 4th place under coach Tomislav Kaloperović . As a result, the club qualified for a European competition for the first time, but just failed in the first round to Dynamo Dresden . It was to get even worse for the club when, completely surprisingly, it finished last at the end of the season and thus had to move into the second division.

1981–2000: The first cup final

Until 1988 Napredak played in the second division when they won the second division in the 1987/88 season, but the club rose for the third time in its history in its debut season. The club competed in the 2nd division until the 1991/92 season, the last season in Yugoslav football before the outbreak of war, and was one of the members of the newly founded 1st division of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia . The first season of the newly formed league finished Napredak in sixth, but rose again in the following season 1993/94 in the second division. In the 1990s Napredak was often on the border between the first and second division, finally he won the group east in the 1999/00 season, one of the lower classes of the second division, and was thus first class again. In the same season Napredak achieved his greatest success when he played against Red Star Belgrade in the final of the Serbian Cup . It wasn't enough to win, but he was able to qualify for the UEFA Cup again .

2000 – today: Between the elevator team and the UEFA Cup

The 2000/01 season ended the club on a relegation zone, so that at the end of the season, almost traditionally, he had to go back to the second division immediately after promotion, and received the reputation of being an elevator team. In the UEFA Cup, Napredak had a little more success than when he first played and made it to the second round, where they were eliminated by OFI Crete . In 2003 the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia changed its name to Serbia and Montenegro . In the same year Napredak won the group east of the 2nd division of Serbia and Montenegro, but rose again in the following season, and this for the fifth time in its history immediately after promotion.

In the 2006/07 season Napredak achieved third place in the 2nd Serbian league, which, however, did not qualify for promotion to the top division. On July 19, 2007, the Serbian Football Association decided that Napredak will be promoted to the first division and replace the club Mladost Apatin , which could not play in the top division of Serbia due to financial problems . In the 2007/08 season, the club just missed a UEFA Cup place. Napredak could only hold one more seasons and was relegated again in the 2009/10 season. In each of the following two seasons they finished sixth.

However, 2012 marked a turning point. At the beginning of the year Napredak received a new and financially strong club management, which immediately invested in the club. The Mladost stadium was renovated, the club's logo was modernized and the squad significantly strengthened, especially with the signing of the experienced striker Nenad Mirosavljević, who moved from Olympiakos Nicosia and was one of the most famous players in Serbian football, as well as one of the most famous players ever played for APOEL Nicosia . In the 2012/13 season, the club was the leader of the table from the first match day on and dominated the second division undisputed, where it was already the champion five game days before the end of the season and thus became first class again.
