The Polesie National Park ( Polish Poleski Park Narodowy ) is a national park in Poland , which is located in the Lublin Voivodeship , near the Ukrainian border.

General

The national park is located in the western part of the historic landscape Polesie (dt. Polesia ), whose entire territory extends to the region of Leczyca-Wlodawa Lake District. This landscape is an extension of the tundra or forest tundra that has advanced this far. A special feature of the flat park area is the complex of low carbonate peat bogs with the Bubnow swamp, the Staw swamp and part of the Orlowski peat bog. 47.8 km² of the national park area consists of water and 20.9 km² of wasteland. In 2002 the national park and the neighboring protected landscape areas were declared a biosphere reserve by UNESCO . In addition, the national park, like the neighboring Ukrainian protected area, was included in the Ramsar Convention . On the eastern side of the bow , in the Ukraine, lies the Shazk National Park , which has to be counted among the Pripjet swamps .

flora

Typical plant communities in the national park are low and high peat bogs . There are also swamp birch forests and pine forests. Of course, water and reed communities are also well represented here. Are very common in the national park boreal plant species such as the Low Birch , the Lapland willow and blueberry willow and the sundew .

The Polesie National Park is an important breeding and nesting site for numerous rare birds. The most valuable species are the golden eagle , white-tailed eagle and greater spotted eagle , as well as spotted eagle , sandpiper and wood sandpiper . Ornithological rarities include the curlew and the double snipe . The most common bird of prey is the increasingly rare in Poland Harrier . In addition, 21 species of fish live in the national park area, including carp , tench , crucian carp , roach , pike , perch , eel and the very rare and protected marsh minnow . Of the 6 reptile species, the pond turtle deserves special attention, as it has one of its largest locations in Europe.
