The Heiligensee and Hütelmoor nature reserve (also Hüttelmoor in more recent land maps and other official documents ) is a nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in the eastern part of the Rostock urban area.

The coast forms the northeastern edge of the nature reserve (near Rosenort)

The legal establishment of the 540 hectare area took place in 1957. The protection purpose consists in the development of a strongly degraded coastal flood moor as part of the Rostock Heath . The Baltic Sea dike forms the northern border.

The condition of the area is classified as satisfactory, with the areas being in the initial revitalization stage due to renaturation measures in the 1990s.

history

From 1975 onwards, the use of grassland was intensified regardless of the status of a nature reserve. The areas were drained by a pumping station, the grassland was broken up and grasses sown. Since 1990 attempts have been made to reverse these interventions and to manage the areas in accordance with the requirements of nature conservation-friendly grassland use.

Flora and fauna

Beach ledges , ostrich grass , comb sedge and marsh hairline grow in the bog area . The numerous trenches are lined with reeds . Typical plant species in the peripheral areas are foam herb , swamp sedge , alder and ash . Lapwing and common snipe breed in the nature reserve, occasionally redshank , stock pigeon , middle and black woodpecker occur. Adders live in this area.
