The Stoltera nature reserve , the official name of the Stoltera nature reserve near Rostock , is an 83 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, west of Warnemünde . It includes the cliff , known as Stoltera , with coastal forest, and the beach and shallow water area of the Baltic Sea to the north . The west-east extension is 2.8 kilometers with a width of about 300 meters. The expulsion took place on October 13, 1939 with the aim of protecting an active section of the cliff with a beach border and forests. The area serves as a geological demonstration object for ice age deposits and coastal dynamics. The state of the area is classified as good, as no coastal protection affects the development of the area. The intensive use as a local recreation area occasionally has a disadvantageous effect.

history

During the Ice Age , a ground moraine was deposited in the Rostock area, made up of layers of marl boulder composed of different compositions, and shaped by subsequent advancing phases of the ice. The layers come from different epochs of the Ice Age and are in places 100,000 years old. Warm phases in the Eem warm period led to the green color of a layer above the beach as so-called green bark . This geological outcrop is unique in the state.

In the immediate demolition area of the coast, a cliff formed that today still reaches a height of around 13 meters. The cliff outcrop has served as a geological research object since the 19th century, starting with the decades of studies by Eugen Geinitz . The forest on the cliff was planted at the beginning of the 20th century.
