As part of the Schlaubetal Nature Park , an area of 1533.70 hectares was placed under protection in 2002. Two total reserves with around 47 hectares are designated within the nature reserve. The total reserve Pinnower Läuche is located in hall 1 of the Schönhöhe district and hall 6 of the Pinnow district, the total reserve Tauer Eichen is located in hall 2 of the Drewitz district . The area is characterized by wetlands , which were created by silting = bog of lakes in the otherwise very dry Lieberoser terminal moraine . There are near-natural forests and natural, nutrient-poor boiler and silting bogs and an embedded flat lake, the Kleinsee . It is located south of the Pinnower See. The protected oaks are located in the Kleinsee forest area. There, so-called Methuselah trees have been awarded plaques , these sessile oaks are all over 100 years old and cannot be used. This guarantees that they will once enter the cycle of nature as dead wood . Special habitats within the site are u. a. the biotope Drewitzer Forest / Bärenklauer Heide , boilers Moore Small Wiedel , tube leek and dry leek habitat rare butterfly species such as the Bogbean-eared (Acronicta menyanthides), grapes oak wood (Calamagrostio-Agrostio-Quercetum) as a habitat of totholzbewohnenden beetles such as stag beetles (Lucanus Cervus ) and oak snap beetle (Lacon querceus).

Hiking trails

Within the nature reserve, special hiking trails have been marked out over a length of around ten kilometers. The hiker will find eight stations, a lookout tower and a hiking hut. The nature trails around the lakes are particularly informative. On about two kilometers around the Kleinsee and about four kilometers around the Großsee there are various educational boards on the animals and plants that have their habitat here. The paths are connected to each other, there is a visitor parking lot, which can be used as a start and finish point. Visitors are allowed to swim at the marked bathing area on the south bank of the Kleinsee. The use of five rowing boats , which must be registered and marked, registration must be made with the Lower Nature Conservation Authority , and fishing from the jetties is permitted. The places are indicated, but driving on the water is prohibited from April 1st to August 15th of each year.
