The Viehlaßmoos or Viehlassmoos nature reserve is located in the Upper Bavarian district of Erding , in the area of the communities of Eitting and Berglern . It has a size of 244.33 ha (2011) and is registered under NSG-00175.01.

The protected area is the remainder of a typical fen in the Erdinger Moos ; The majority of the Erdinger Moos is now used intensively for agriculture and has undergone massive changes in the past decades due to the construction of Munich Airport in Moos. The Munich gravel plain north of Munich follows the course of the Isar and was a flood area of the Isar for thousands of years . It was not until the 19th century that the systematic drainage of the moss and the dike in the Isar began.

The Viehlaßmoos is the largest continuous groundwater spring moor of the Erdinger Moos from the formerly extensive spring moor in the Erdinger Moos. For a long time it was characterized by the use of litter meadows and in the eastern part by small-scale hand peat cuttings. The result was a small-scale mosaic of marsh grass litter meadows, cabbage thistle and smooth oat meadows, tall herbaceous meadows and wetlands, near-natural ditches and dry mountain pastures and peat ridges.

fauna and Flora

The Viehlaßmoos nature reserve is the habitat of numerous species of flora and fauna typical of low marshland. The peculiarities of cattle moss include the pulmonary gentian ( Gentiana pneumonanthe ) and the pulmonary gentian ant blue ( Phengaris alcon ), whose caterpillar feeds on it, as well as the dark ( Phengaris nausithous ) and light blue butterfly ( Phengaris teleius ), the blue eye ( Minois teleius ) dryas ), the valerian butterfly ( Melitaea diamina ) and the great meadow bird ( Coenonympha tullia ). The buckthorn hairstreak ( Satyrium spini ) occurs in the litter meadows of the nature reserve. Of the grasshoppers , the short-winged sword hoppers ( Conocephalus dorsalis ) and the marsh hoppers ( Stethopihyma grossum ) are worth mentioning.

protection and care

The aim is to preserve the nationwide important Viehlaßmoos, as the largest continuous groundwater spring moor of the Erdinger Moos. The Burger Wiese is mowed annually by volunteers from LBV Erding and Freising with bar mowers and the cuttings are removed. This pushes back the reeds and the goldenrod that was brought in from America .
