Nazzal al-Armouti

Muhammad Nazzal al-Armouti (born July 16, 1924 in Amman , Transjordan , † August 19, 2015 ) was a Jordanian politician and diplomat .

Life

Muhammad Nazzal al-Armouti, son of Nazzal Ahmad al-Armouti and his wife Hamdeh Hamdan Abou Shuwaina began after visiting schools in Amman and Salt Al studying law at the University of Damascus and at the University of Exeter , which he graduated there in 1946 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). After his return in 1947 he entered the public service and was first office manager in the office of the chief judge and in 1948 general secretary of the Ministry of the Interior. He then became Secretary General of Parliament ( Maǧlis al-Umma ) in 1950 and Inspector General of the Income Tax Authority in 1952, before becoming legal advisor to the Minister of Finance in 1954. In the following years he took over the post of governor of the Hebron governorate in 1955, of the Irbid governorate in 1956, of the al-Karak governorate in 1957, of the Maʿan governorate in 1958, of the Nablus governorate in 1959 and, most recently, of the al-Salt governorate in 1960 .

In 1961, al-Armouti first became Undersecretary of State in the Interior Ministry and then between 1964 and 1965 the post of Interior Minister in the second cabinet of Prime Minister Bahdschat at-Talhuni . After leaving the cabinet, he changed the diplomatic service and was ambassador to Algeria , Libya and Tunisia from 1965 to 1967 and then to Kuwait between 1967 and 1971 , before being head of the political department of the Foreign Ministry for a short time in 1971 . He then moved into business and was Chairman of the Board of Jordan Gulf Bank from 1971 to 1989 .

His marriage to Souad Amar Ma'ani in 1949 resulted in nine children.
