Nenad Maksić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Ненад Максић , born August 21, 1972 in Smederevo ) is a Serbian handball coach and former handball player , who was mostly used as a right backcourt player .

Career

The 1.87 m tall and 87 kg heavy left-hander began playing handball in his hometown at RK Smederevo. Via RK Borac Banja Luka and RK Roter Stern Belgrade , he came to the Slovenian league in 1995 for the RK Prevent Slovenj Gradec , with which he competed five times in a row in the EHF Cup and reached the semi-finals in 1999/2000. In the 2002/03 season he played for Celje Pivovarna Lasko , with whom he became champion in 2003 and again reached the semi-finals in the 2002/03 European Cup Winners' Cup . He then returned to Slovenj Gradec and took part in the 2003/04 EHF Cup and the 2004/05 European Cup Winners' Cup, in which he made it to the second round. After nine years and as the record scorer in the Slovenian league, he went back to Red Star, with whom he became Serbian champion in 2007 and 2008. In 2006/07 he was in the group stage of the EHF Champions League , in 2007/08 in the third round of the EHF Cup. From 2008 to 2010 he ran for his hometown club. From 2010 he played for RK Partizan Belgrade , where he was the captain like with Red Star. With Partizan he won the championship in 2011 and 2012 and the cup in 2012 and 2013. Internationally, he reached the semi-finals in the EHF Challenge Cup 2010/11 and was the second top scorer in the competition with 64 goals. In 2011/12 and 2012/13 he qualified for the group stage of the Champions League. He ended his career in the summer of 2013 due to an injury and has been an assistant coach at Partizan ever since .

With the Yugoslav national team , Nenad Maksić took part in the European Championship in 1998 and finished fifth. At the World Championships in 1999 and 2001 he won the bronze medal. At the European Championships in 2002 he only reached tenth place and at the World Championships in 2003 he was eighth. With the Serbian-Montenegrin national team , he also came eighth at the 2004 European Championships . Maksić played a total of 127 internationals .

Others

Maksić was a sports officer on the Smederevo City Council for six years. His son Aleksa is a junior national handball player.
