Nerea Pena Abaurrea (born December 13, 1989 in Pamplona ) is a Spanish handball player .

Career

Nerea Pena played in her home country for SD Itxako , with whom she won the EHF Cup in 2009 and was Spanish champion in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012, and for whom she also played in the EHF Champions League . From 2012, the 1.75 meter tall back player was under contract with the Hungarian club Ferencvárosi TC . With Ferencvárosi she won the Hungarian Championship in 2015 and the Hungarian Cup in 2017. In the summer of 2019, she moved to the league competitor Siófok KC .

Pena is a member of the Spanish national team , for which she has so far played 156 international matches in which she has scored 519 goals. With Spain she took part in the World Championships in 2011 and 2013 , as well as in the European Championships in 2010 , 2012 and 2014 . She won the bronze medal in 2011 and the silver medal in 2014 and was elected to the All-Star team at the 2010 tournament . She took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . At the 2019 World Cup , she won the silver medal with the Spanish selection.
