The New Castle in Rechberghausen is a castle in the district of Göppingen . It was built in the 18th century for the Counts of Rechberg and has served as the town hall of Rechberghausen since the end of the First World War .

history

In 1716, Count Alois Clemens von Rechberg came into the possession of the Rechberghausen rule. In Rechberghausen a castle already existed on a hill north of the village, but it burned down between 1681 and 1690. In 1721 a rectangular building with a mansard hipped roof was built on the site of an office building by Matthias Wiedemann . In the attic of the building there is still a crane that gives an indication of the function of the attic as a storage room for the tithe .

In 1746 and 1749 the castle and the village of Rechberghausen were sold by the Counts of Rechberg to the Counts of Preysing , who, however, already sold the building to the Counts of Degenfeld-Schonburg in Eybach in 1789 . They kept the building until the 20th century, but neither did they live in the building, nor did their previous owners. Shortly before the outbreak of the First World War, the Degenfeld-Schonburg planned an expansion of the palace, but this was not carried out due to the war. In 1920 the municipality of Rechberghausen bought the castle and set up their town hall in it, which it still houses today. She also completed the planned expansion in the same year.
