history

A noble family named after the castle was first mentioned in a document in 1237 , and later they often appear. The family of the Lords of Gruibingen is named as the Truchsessen of the Counts of Spitzenberg- Helfenstein in 1391 . The castle itself is not documented, it was probably built during the 13th century and was probably abandoned in the 14th century.

The castle, running on several artificially created plateaus, separated by four neck ditches , had a core castle made up of several individual buildings, an outer bailey with a shield wall that was part of a residential tower , and a fifth neck ditch with a rampart facing the sloping ridge. The core and outer bailey were separated by a seven meter deep section trench.

Today the castle stable shows only small remains of moats, ramparts and quarry stone walls . The high point 731.7 with the designation Burgstall northwest of the former Gruibingen Castle goes back to Vor dem Burgstall , and refers to the Gruibingen castle site, there is no other former castle complex.
