The Hiltenburg castle ruins are the ruins of a high medieval hilltop castle at 716.5 m above sea level. NHN high Schlossberg in the Filstal valley high above Bad Ditzenbach in the Göppingen district in Baden-Württemberg .
history
The castle was mentioned for the first time in 1289 as the seat of an official of the Counts of Helfenstein . After the older Helenstein line had used the castle as a secondary residence from 1356, it became the main residence of the Helfensteiners in 1396. From 1446 to 1482 the Hiltenburg was pledged to Württemberg .
On November 9, 1516, the castle was destroyed on the orders of Duke Ulrich von Württemberg and not rebuilt for cost reasons. The Helfensteiner moved their residence to Wiesensteig .
From 1976 to 1979 the remains of the wall were secured by the Stuttgart Forestry Directorate and the Weilheim / Teck State Forestry Office . During recent restorations , archaeological excavations were carried out by the district archeology department in Göppingen.

Today the castle ruins are a popular destination in the Upper Filstal . The facility offers a barbecue area with a sunbathing area and a newly built viewing platform with a wide view of Bad Ditzenbach and the neighboring villages.
