description

The castle team's lounge with its ribbed vault dates back to the 13th century. It is a three-aisled hall, also called Dürnitz , with nine bays and four octagonal pillars. It has no comparable counterpart north of the Alps, only the Crusader castle of Akkon has a similar hall. In 1450 the castle was converted for the first time. The castle chapel , built in 1560 and still in existence, is of late Gothic origin and was restored after a fire in the 1960s . It was initially dedicated to St. Margaret before it was dedicated to St. Martin. Between 1560 and 1580 the castle complex was rebuilt a second time. The stone house, which today defines the palace complex, dates from this time. 1809 it belonged with increasing decay back to the community that in 1830 the keep demolished because of the danger of collapse.
