Archaeological finds indicate that there was a previous building (a castle) on the same site as early as the 10th century. Today the castle houses a local museum and an exhibition on its history.

Lorch Monastery

The Lorch Monastery , founded in 1102 by Duke Friedrich I of Staufer and his family, served as the house monastery of the Staufers. It was under the Pope. There are only remains of the wall of the former castle. In the euphoria of the founding of the empire in 1870/71, citizens of Göppingen thought of rebuilding the Stauferburg, but the plans failed because of the lack of money.

Gallus Church Brenz
