The Hollbach , also known as Hohlbach , is a seven-kilometer-long, roughly south-east flowing creek with its longest upper course, Erlenbach , in the district of Göppingen on the Middle Kuppenalb . Its course is predominantly in the municipality of Gruibingen and it flows below Mühlhausen im Täle in the municipality of Bad Ditzenbach from the left into the uppermost Fils .

geography

course

The Hollbach arises in the northern Gruibingen from the confluence of the Erlenbach coming from the west and the Langenwiesbach coming from the north at about 571  m above sea level. NHN . The Erlenbach is the longer and richer catchment area in the upper reaches. From the confluence of the river Hollbach runs through a wide valley that is about 180 meters deeper than the highest edge heights to the southeast, accompanied by the A8 on the left . For about half of its course, it stays in the closed local area of Gruibingen, where the Winkelbach flows in from the center after it, its 3.9 km long and a partial catchment area of 5.6 km², the most important tributary. After a bit in the open corridor, he passes a large industrial building and changes to the municipal area of Mühlhausen im Täle, where soon one after the other a short ditch from the west opens up, on whose mouth the ruins of Dürrenberg Castle stand, and then the larger Schönbach opposite Houses of Mühlhausen from the northeast, at the corner of which the Mühlhausen junction of the motorway is located. The autobahn splits here for the second stage of its ascent to the Alb on the Drackensteiner slope , under the ascending route the Hollbach flows for its last 100 meters into the area of the municipality of Bad Ditzenbach and then flows out at just under 530  m above sea level. NHN from the left and, last but not least, west into the uppermost Fils .

The Hollbach, together with its main upper course, Erlenbach, is 7.4 km long and flows about 175 meters below its source. On this route, it experiences a mean bed gradient of about 24 ‰. The Hollbach alone is only 3.7 km long and falls with a mean slope of 8–9 ‰, a height difference of around 31 meters.

Catchment area

The catchment area of the Hollbach is 20.2 km² and, in terms of natural space , lies on the northern Middle Kuppenalb , it borders with its west and northwest side on the foreland of the middle Swabian Alb . There on the line of the Albtrauf or close to it are also its highest elevations: The Sickenbühl ( 789.7  m above sea level ) almost on the southwest corner, Bürg ( 806.5  m above sea level ) in the west, Boßler ( 799.9  m) above sea level ) in the northwest and Kornberg ( 779.7  m above sea level ) near the northern tip.

Behind the western section of the watershed from Sickenbühl to Boßler, the Lindach together with its right tributaries drains the foreland over the Lauter to the Neckar , from Boßler over the Kornberg to Sielenwang at the northeast corner then the Butzbach and the Pfuhlbach or Heimbach with their upper reaches over the lower one Fils to the Neckar. Beyond the eastern border from Sielenwang to the mouth, the immediately following left Fils tributary, Hartel, takes up the runoff, while south of the border from the southeast corner at the mouth to a little beyond the Sickenbühl, only the comparatively short Schönbach runs from the left to the Fils.

In the catchment area, forest and open fields mix closely. The forest is mainly found on the valley slopes, including those of dry valleys, and on individual higher mountains. The small-scale corridor is made up of meadows and fields. Settlement is limited, with the exception of some tourist huts, especially on the Albtrauf, above all to the village of Gruibingen , which lies in the valley widening that begins at the confluence of the upper reaches and extends over the tributary of the Winkelbach, and to small parts of Mühlhausen in the valley around the Exenmühle already near the mouth. The vast majority of the catchment area belongs to the municipality of Gruibingen, a small strip at the southeast end across the Hollbachtal and with the valley of the Schönbach belongs to the municipality of Mühlhausen im Täle, while the mouth and a tiny spandrel there already below in the unpopulated area of the Filstal municipality Bad Ditzenbach lies.

traffic

The Federal Highway 8 passes through the valley of the Hagen fountain stream, then briefly the valley of the Erlenbach and Hollbachtal at its portion between the two ball stages of Alba Stieg , the lower the Albtrauf at Aichelberg and the upper from the Filstal over the Drackensteiner tendency to Alb plateau. Between the watershed on the Albtrauf and the mouth of the Hollbach stream, the valley in which it runs has a gradient of around one hundred meters. The motorway is accompanied by the parallel L 1213, which joins the L 1217 in northern Gruibingen. From Gammelshausen in the foothills of the Alb, this climbs south of the Albtrauf, reaches Gruibingen through the high valley of the Langenwiesbach and from there follows the Hollbach to Mühlhausen.

The Boßler tunnel on the new Wendlingen – Ulm railway line is to cross its catchment area in the future, offset slightly to the south-west of the Hollbach valley axis.

geology

Layers of the southern German Jura are pending throughout the area . The top layer in the catchment area lies in the package of the Upper Felsenkalk , Lower Felsenkalk and Lacunosamergel formations of the White Jura . The sources of Erlenbach and Winkelbach arise in the transition area of the Lacunosamergel to the underlying layers of the well- stratified limestone and the Impressamergel formations . These runs soon change to the Brown Jura , in which the Langenwiesbach and Hollbach valley bottoms are also located.

In the karstified White Jura there are several caves in the catchment area.

Nature and protected areas

In the catchment area there are numerous hedges, grasslands and juniper heaths in the corridor. The majority of the catchment area is taken up by the landscape protection area Oberes Filstal-Gemeinde Gruibingen , with the exception of almost only the settlement areas and the large nature reserves Kornberg and Rufstein slopes and the surrounding area and the small, also under nature protection heath on Hillenwang near Gruibingen. Several juniper heaths are also protected as natural monuments . Five water protection areas on the south, west, north and east edges protrude into the catchment area.
