Location of Neundorf auf dem Eigen in the city of Herrnhut (as of January 1, 2013)
|
Neundorf auf dem Eigen is a place in the Saxon Upper Lusatia and a district of the city of Herrnhut . The appearance of the village is characterized by three- and four-sided courtyards and some free-standing linden trees , such as the Lutherlinde from 1883.
location
The town lies on the northern edge of a meadow valley , on this several rivulets, and form a Quellarm of Erlich Bach . The village itself is located about four kilometers east of Herrnhut and about two kilometers northeast of Großhennersdorf in the southern part of the district of Görlitz . To the north-east of Neundorf lies the Small Nonnenwald, in which a source arm of the Buschbach rises.
Surrounding places are Rennersdorf / OL in the northwest, Dittersbach auf dem Eigen in the east, Schlegel in the southeast, Heuscheune in the south, Großhennersdorf in the southwest and Herrnhut in the west.
history
The place, founded as Waldhufendorf , was first mentioned in 1283 as media villa nuendorph in a dispute between the Celle monastery and a resident of Bautzen . Later the place was given by the diocese of Meißen to the knights of Vesta-Kamenz as a fief and later as property. These in turn lent the village to the von Heinrichsdorf family, who already owned the Großhennersdorf manor. In 1407 the place known as Nuendorff came into the manorial property of the St. Marienstern Monastery and thus became part of the Eigen circle . The village remained in the possession of the monastery until 1856, after which the state took over the law and administration.
As in other villages in Upper Lusatia, there were mills in Neundorf, for example today's Günther mill is first mentioned in the church records of Bernstadt in 1802 . In addition to farmers and artisans, many weavers also settled in Neundorf at this time. From the middle of the 19th century, however, with the onset of industrialization, home weaving fell sharply and with it the number of inhabitants, as many people were drawn to the cities.
On April 1, 1938, Neundorf lost its independence, the place was incorporated into the community of Großhennersdorf. In 1958 the first Neundorf farmers took part in an early agricultural production cooperative , which was merged into Type I LPG Am Windmühlenberg in 1960 . Until 1990, Neundorf was therefore strongly characterized by agriculture. After reunification, club life in the village flourished again, for example the Neundorf post- windmill association was founded on its own e. V. founded, which has set itself the goal of rebuilding and maintaining the Günther mill.

In 1600 16 possessed men lived in Neundorf , so one can assume a population of around 80 people. In 1777 the number of possessed men was only six, on the other hand the number of small farmers was 19 and that of cottagers 36. From the middle of the 19th century the population of Neundorf fell steadily. This is due to the decline in home weaving and the onset of industrialization, through which many people moved to the cities to find work there.
