Nicklas Utgren (born January 12, 1969 in Vänersborg ) is a former Swedish tennis player .

Life

In 1986 Utgren reached the semi-finals of the junior tournament of the French Open , including by defeating Javier Sánchez . The following year he failed in the quarterfinals to Guillermo Pérez Roldán . At the junior tournament of the US Open in 1987 he was in the round of 16, where he was defeated by Pete Sampras . The International Tennis Federation led him to position 8 in the junior ranking this year.

In 1989 Utgen became a professional tennis player, but was never able to confirm his junior successes in singles on the ATP Tour . His best individual result of his career was the final at the ATP Challenger tournament in Vienna in 1989, where he was defeated by Omar Camporese in three sets. He was much more successful in doubles. With his compatriot Per Henricsson he won the tournament in his home town of Båstad . Other achievements include the finals at the ATP tournament in ATP Nice 1991 together with Vojtěch Flegl and 1990 at the International Tournament Weissenhof in Stuttgart , which is part of that time ATP International Series Gold was series. Utgren and Henricsson were defeated by the South Africans Pieter Aldrich and Danie Visser in two sets. Through this final, Utgren achieved his highest ranking in the double tennis world rankings with position 55 . In 1989 he was listed on position 138.

Due to his low world ranking position, Utgren was never directly qualified for a Grand Slam tournament in singles . He tried several times in the qualification, but could never move into the main draw. In the doubles competition he reached the second round of the Australian Open in 1990 on the side of Per Henricsson .
