Niccolò Fieschi (* around 1456 in Genoa ; † June 15, 1524 in Rome ) was an Italian cardinal of the Roman Church and Archbishop of Ravenna from the family of the Counts of Lavagna from Genoa.

Life

He was the fifth of eleven children of the patrician Giacomo Fischi and Selvaggia Fieschi de Caneto. He was the brother of Santa Caterina Fieschi and nephew of Giorgio Fieschi .

At a young age he was vicar general and provost of Fréjus and ambassador of the Republic of Genoa in France . On September 12, 1484 he became bishop of Toulon and then of Fréjus on October 14, 1485 . In 1486 he resigned as bishop and became bishop of Agde on October 22, 1488 and again bishop of Fréjus on February 15, 1495. He resigned from this office in favor of his nephew Urbano Fieschi on November 5, 1511. From November 28, 1504 until his death he was Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Adge, from 1507 to 1509 Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Senez , from October 12, 1510 to July 5, 1518, Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Embrun and from September 3, 1518 to his death apostolic administrator of the diocese of Tolone . All of these bishoprics are in France.

Pope Alexander VI created him on May 31, 1503 cardinal and on June 12, 1503 assigned him the title of deaconry Santa Lucia in Septisolio . On October 5, 1506, he was appointed cardinal priest of Santa Prisca . On November 13, 1517 he was appointed cardinal priest of Santi XII Apostoli and kept the title of Santa Prisca in commendam until his death. After Julius II's death in 1513, he was named as a possible successor. In 1516 he was appointed Archbishop of Ravenna in Italy and resigned on November 4, 1517 in favor of his nephew Urban. In 1517 he became Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Andria and the Diocese of Umbratico in Italy. He resigned on November 13, 1517 in Andria and 1520 in Umbratico . On October 5, 1518 he was appointed Cardinal Bishop of Albano . On July 24, 1521 he became Cardinal Bishop of Sabina , on December 18 Cardinal Bishop of Porto e Santa Rufina and Cardinal Subdean and on May 20, 1524 Cardinal Bishop of Ostia e Velletri and Dean of the Holy College .

He died in Rome on June 15, 1524 and was buried in Santa Maria del Popolo .
