Live and act

He was the son of the medical council Engelhard Wychgram (born August 3, 1830 in Neermoor , † February 21, 1895 in Emden) and his wife Gesina Johanna, née Vietor, born in Emden. Jakob Wychgram was his older brother. After agricultural practice and studies in Halle and Berlin , he took over a 54 hectare farm in Wybelsum near Emden. Here he devoted himself particularly to the cultivation of the moors .

In the field of animal breeding , Wychgram dealt primarily with cattle of the black and white lowland cattle breed . To this end, he introduced systematic milk yield monitoring in his and other farms. In 1899 he was already on the board and from 1905 to 1929 as chairman of the board of the Ostfriesischer Stammviehzüchter e. V. (VOSt) elected. In the 30 years of his activity, Wychgram has had a positive influence on the development of the cattle breeding association. This concerned the increase in the number of members and the number of herdbooks as well as the implementation of milk control in all herds as an essential prerequisite for successful performance breeding . During this time the important breed directors Groeneveld and Adolf Köppe worked as managing directors in the VOSt.

Wychgram was elected or appointed to other voluntary committees due to his recognized knowledge and breeding skills. He was a member of the committee for cattle breeding of the German Agricultural Society (DLG), a reporter at the annual traveling exhibitions of the DLG, a long-standing member of the board of the German Society for Zuchtungskunde (DGfZ) and first chairman from 1931 to 1935. He died on April 26, 1941 and was buried in the Emden - Neue Kirche cemetery.
