Count Nils Bielke af Åkerö (born February 7, 1644 in Stockholm ; † November 26, 1716 ) was a Swedish general and governor of Swedish Pomerania. He achieved dubious fame through the so-called " Bielke coin twists ".

Life

The son of Ture Nilsson Bielke and Kristina Anna Banér became colonel in the bodyguard regiment under King Charles XI at the age of 29 . appointed and took part in the Battle of Lund , among others . Between 1679 and 1682 Bielke was ambassador to France , entered the imperial service in 1684 and distinguished himself in the Turkish wars of the following years, so that he was appointed general.

After Sweden returned, he became in 1687 Governor General of Pomerania and Estonia , and in 1690 field marshal . In the Palatinate Wars from 1688 to 1697, for several years he thwarted the aid that Sweden owed the German Empire according to the treaty.

He was on October 12, 1687 in the Stockholm Palace of King Charles XI. raised to the Swedish count status and introduced to the count class on February 4, 1689 at the knight's house (as No. 29). On July 1, 1688, he also took with royal permission to by Emperor I. Leopold conferred imperial counts on.

From August 1688 Bielke, with the permission of Karl XI. Mint inferior coins in Stettin and put them into circulation in Hamburg (“ Bielkeschen Münzwirren ” during the “ Little Tipper Period ”).
