Nonie Darwish

Nonie Darwish ( Arabic نوني درويش Nuni Darwisch , * 1949 in Cairo , Egypt ) is an Egyptian-American critic of Islam , founder of Arabs for Israel and director of Former Muslims United, and sees herself as a human rights activist. She is the daughter of a lieutenant in the Egyptian military , who wasreferred to as Shahid by Gamal Abdel Nasser because he was killed in a targeted killing operation by the armed forces of Israel in 1956. Darwish blames "Middle Eastern Islamic culture and the hate propaganda drilled into children from birth" for his death. In 1978 she and her husband moved to the United States and converted to Christianity . Since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 , she has been writing on topics related to Islam .

Life

Nonie Darwish was born in Cairo in 1949 as Nahid Mustafa Hafiz Darwisch. Her family moved to Gaza in the 1950s , where her father founded the Palestinian fedayeen . With this terrorist unit, her father killed many Israeli civilians. In July 1956, when Darwish was eight years old, her father was killed by a letter bomb from the Israel Defense Forces. This made him the so-called " Shahid ". Darwish explains that Gamal Abdel Nasser said after her father died:

"Which of you will avenge your father's death by killing Jews?"

- Gamal Abdel Nasser

She explains that the Palestinians' claim that there was no terrorism before the Six Day War is false because her father was a terrorist before that war. After the death of her father, Darwish retired to Cairo , went to secondary Catholic school and received a doctorate in sociology and anthropology from the American University of Cairo . She then worked as a translator for an intelligence agency, emigrated to the United States and became a Christian . Since September 11th she has been writing about Islamic extremism and the - in her eyes - silence of moderate Muslims. She says:

“Just because I'm for Israel doesn't mean I'm anti-Arab. I mean my culture desperately needs reform from within. "

When asked how to encourage moderate Muslims to stand up against terrorism, Darwish replied:

“After September 11th, few Arab and Muslim Americans stood up to terrorism ... Muslim groups in the United States are trying to silence us and intimidating American universities into inviting us to speak. I often tell Muslim students that Arab Americans who oppose terrorism are not the problem, but the terrorists who discredit Islam. The West has to ask the politically incorrect questions and we Arab and Muslim Americans owe them honest answers. "

Darwish denies that she is the author of the essay "The Joys of Muslim Women". But she thinks this text is correct.

She has spoken before a committee of the United States Senate and the European Parliament . Several US universities invited them to give speeches that were then not allowed to be given.

Views on Islam

Darwish believes Islam is an authoritarian ideology that seeks to enforce the values and norms of the 7th century Arabian Peninsula around the world. She writes that Islam is an "evil force" that needs to be countered and that needs to be contained. She admits that it is difficult to understand how "an entire religion and culture believes that God commands it to kill the unbelievers." She explains that Islam and Sharia are a backward ideology that is much to misery contribute to the world.

She explains that the Koran is a book which “calls for violence and discrimination” and that violence against women, discrimination against homosexuals , honor killings , the beheading of apostates and stoning come straight out of the Koran.

Arabs for Israel

Nonie Darwish is a committed supporter of Israel and founded the group Arabs for Israel , which consists of Arabs , but also other Muslims .
