Norbert Müller (sports historian)
Norbert Müller (born December 9, 1946 in Speyer ) is a German sports historian and professor at the University of Mainz and is considered an Olympic professor because of his diverse research into the Olympic idea .
Life
Müller was a very good all-rounder and high jumper in his youth. After graduating from high school at Kaiserdom in Speyer, he studied sports in Mainz. After graduating as a qualified sports teacher (1969), he became a research assistant to Berno Wischmann . In 1972 he was chief of protocol for the Olympic Village at the Summer Olympics . After receiving his doctorate in 1976 for Olympic education , he became a lecturer in Heinz-Egon Rösch's sports history department . When Rösch was appointed to Düsseldorf in 1979, Müller was appointed professor in Mainz and remained so until his retirement in 2012. He then took on a senior professorship at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern . Since his participation in the International Olympic Academy in Olympia (1968), Müller never let go of the Olympic idea. He edited the critical edition of Pierre de Coubertin's works (15,000 pages) and was involved in the Olympic movement and became a permanent lecturer at the International Olympic Academy.
