Nordica is an Estonian virtual airline based in Tallinn and a subsidiary of the Nordic Aviation Group holding . Its operation is carried out by the sister company Regional Jet and other airlines.
history
The company was founded under the name Nordic Aviation in autumn 2015 with government support following the closure of Estonian Air . Because the company did not have an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), it initially worked closely with the Slovenian Adria Airways . The operating recording was made on 8 November 2015, including flights from Adria Airways , later by bmi regional , Trade Air , NextJet and Carpatair in wetlease were conducted.
At the same time, Nordic Aviation founded a subsidiary called Regional Jet . This subsidiary took over its first aircraft in January 2016 with a leased Bombardier CRJ700 . In the course of a restructuring of the group of companies, the Nordic Aviation Group holding was created in spring 2016 , which owns the virtual companies Regional Jet and Nordic Aviation . The latter was renamed Nordica on April 1, 2016 to distinguish it from the new parent company . A new corporate identity was also developed for the virtual company. The company logo shows a dragonfly , which u. a. can also be seen on the vertical stabilizer of the aircraft.
Since then, Nordica has mainly used machines from its sister airline Regional Jet to carry out its operations. However, it continues to rent aircraft from other companies in wet lease.
At the end of June 2019, the company announced that it would discontinue its own flights on October 26 of the same year. As a reason, Nordica referred to the competition with other airlines, which makes profitable operation impossible.
Destinations
Nordica mainly serves destinations in Northern and Central Europe from Tallinn . In German-speaking countries , Munich and Vienna are served all year round and Berlin and Hamburg are served seasonally.
