The Nordstrand- class is a series of six Class 725 harbor tugs that were built for the German Navy .
General
As a replacement for the "small harbor tugs" of the Lütje-Hörn class (class 723), the Nordstrand class was commissioned in two lots from Orenstein & Koppel in Lübeck (type A) and from the Husum shipyard (type B). The hull is made of steel and divided into six compartments by five bulkheads . Two Voith-Schneider propellers of the type 24 G II / 165 give the harbor tugs good maneuverability and a bollard pull of 23 tbp.
Both types are equipped with a fire monitor. The type A tugs also have a closed winch control station on the main deck , a folding crane and a swing-mounted deck structure .
The additional newbuildings initially planned to replace the “large harbor tugs” of the Sylt class (class 724) were not implemented due to new stationing decisions. Since the decommissioning of the Eisvogel class , the Nordstrand class has also been used as a tug for sea target shooting targets.
In October 2015, the three tugs stationed on the Baltic Sea were brought together in Kiel because they are better utilized there.

Trivia
At the beginning of the Expo am Meer, an external project of the Expo 2000 , 250 model railway locomotives of the type German crocodile dragged the Knechtsand over a distance of six meters through the harbor basin of the Wiesbaden bridge . That was enough for an entry in the Guinness Book of Records .
