history
The parish originally belonged, together with today's parishes of South Hero and Grand Isle , to a colonization area known as Two Heros in 1779 and given to 365 war veterans from the American War of Liberation. Those veterans also included Ethan Allen and Samuel Herrick. Whether it was these two people after whom the area was named is controversial. Other voices refer to Ethan's brother Ira as the second hero . The area of origin was divided into three areas in 1798: North Hero , South Hero and Middle Hero , which was originally under the administration of South Hero and only became independent in 1810 under the current name of Grand Isle .
The inhabitants live from agriculture on the one hand, but also from tourism on the other: a number of islands off North Hero have been declared national parks and are under nature protection. There is also a national park on the east bank of your own island: North Hero State Park .
religion
There are two parishes in the village: a Roman Catholic and a Methodist .
