Notre-Dame de l'Assomption in Palinges , a commune in the Saône-et-Loire in the region of Burgundy ( France ), is a parish church , built in the 12th century.

history

Before the French Revolution , the parish of Palinges belonged to the archdeaconate of Perrecy-les-Forges and was subordinate to the Bishop of Autun . The feudal lord was the Baron von Digoine. Since the church had become too small for the community in the 19th century, a larger nave was built.

The church of Palinges was largely rebuilt in the 19th century in the neo-Romanesque style. From the Romanesque period it still has the transept , the apses and the bell tower .

architecture

The main portal with a white tympanum is surrounded by three circular arch curvatures which on columns with plants capitals rest. There is a rose window above the portal that gives light to the gallery .

The nave was rebuilt in 1858 and has six bays . The Romanesque transept is not protruding. The three semicircular apses form a wreath. The central apse is flanked by two smaller apses set back a little. The main nave is connected to the side aisles by arched arcades , which rest on round pillars with carved capitals. The capitals have plant motifs. The crossing is vaulted by a dome that rests on trumpets . The ambulatory has seven small round arches. The main nave is covered by ribbed vaults that rest on pilasters decorated with capitals .

Interior

The church has numerous plaster statues , e.g. B. the Virgin Mary , St. Joseph and St. Anthony of Padua . A wooden sculpture from the beginning of the 16th century depicts John the Baptist . In the choir there is a painting of the Virgin Mary with child. The lead glass windows , made in the 1920s, show episodes from the life of Jesus and Our Lady.

Bell tower

The octagonal bell tower is located above the crossing dome. It is crowned by an eight-sided roof with flat roof tiles.
