NunSlaughter is an American death metal band from Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania that was formed in 1987.

history

The band was formed in 1987 by bassist Don of the Dead, guitarist Jer the Butcher, singer Gregoroth and drummer Behemoth Bill. In the same year a first demo appeared with Ritual of Darkness . In 1989, the line-up changed after guitarist Rick Rancid and drummer John Sicko joined NunSlaughter. The Rotting Christ joined the second demo shortly afterwards . In 1991 the line-up changed again, with Von the Impaler joining the band as drummer, while Gregoroth had left them and Don of the Dead also took over the vocals. This was followed by the third demo, Impale the Soul of Christ on the Inverted Cross of Death . In 1993, Mark Perversion joined the band as the new drummer, after which the band recorded their next demo in their living room, which was released that year under the name The Guts of Christ . In 1995 NunSlaughter consisted of the original members Don of the Dead, Gregoroth and Jer the Butcher, as well as the new drummer Jim Sadist, whereupon the demo Face of Evil appeared. After Gregoroth and Jer the Butcher left the band, the band went into the studio in January 1997 with the new bassist Chris 213 and the new guitarist Blood to record songs for a split release with Bloodsick. This was followed by another release together with Dekapitator , which was followed by a split release together with Crucifier , which was limited to 666 pieces. In addition, the EP Blood Devil and a split release appeared together with Derkéta. After the band signed a contract with Revenge Productions , the debut album Hells Unholy Fire was released . A tour followed to promote the album, as well as a European tour in September 2000. Wayne Richards ( Soulless ) was represented as guitarist on these performances . The EP Trifurcate was released during the tour . In the following years many more EPs and split releases appeared before the second album Goat was released in 2003 via Revenge Productions in Europe and via Metal War Productions in the USA. A tour of Australia followed . Back in the US, the band wrote new songs and released over 16 split releases and EPs in the next two years. In 2005 she toured Japan while the album Goat was reissued with bonus songs. Back in the US, the band planned their second DVD, which should contain video and audio material from their performances in Japan. In 2005, the split release Cryptic appeared together with Nocturnal , before the EPs Fathers and Fright , Fuck the God in Heaven , the re-release of Face of Evil and Rotting Christ as EPs, a re-release of the album Goat and the boxing album in 2006. Set DemoSlaughter . In 2007 the album Hex was released .

Music style and lyrics

NunSlaughter's style has been described as brutal Death / Thrash Metal as well as violent, dark US Death Metal, which the band has pursued from the beginning without softening or moving closer to trends. The style is typically American; Don of the Dead disagrees with a comparison with Acheron , who mainly referred to the vocals; at most the singing with Acheron reminded of NunSlaughter. He doesn't mind the comparison with “a fantastic band like Acheron”, but people forget how long NunSlaughter has been around. The fact that the band was known only to a few metalheads after twelve years was desired according to Don of the Dead; he wanted true metal fans as supporters and none who showed no interest in music after a few years. Don of the Dead is in favor of vinyl pressings, as these would offer the better sound for metal; Anyone who wants to republish NunSlaughter's demo recordings can contact him as long as he does not publish them on CD.
