Nymphenburg summer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nymphenburg Summer is a series of classical music events at Nymphenburg Palace in Munich. Today it is an integral part of the summer cultural scene in the Bavarian capital and offers concerts with artists of international standing.

history

The Nymphenburg Summer can look back on a tradition of over 250 years with its concerts. The builder of the Hubertus Hall in Nymphenburg Palace, Elector Max III. Joseph , had musical merrymaking and plays performed in the magnificent hall.

The English musician Charles Burney wrote in his diary of a musical journey in 1772 : The best musicians are here because his electoral nobles have concerts every evening .

This tradition, which was continued in the 19th century, was carried on by Tino Walz and his wife after the Second World War from 1949 to 1989 in the Steinerner Saal , in the central building of the Wittelsbachers' summer residence. After an extensive renovation, the stone hall could no longer be used as a concert hall for reasons of monument preservation.

In 2004, the Nymphenburger Sommer event series continued the tradition of concerts in Nymphenburg Palace, which take place in the Hubertussaal (also known as the Langer Saal ) in the so-called orangery wing. The Nymphenburg Summer was initiated by Eckard Heintz and organized in cooperation with Andreas Schwankhart until 2010. Malte Jensen has taken on the latter task since 2010. The musical palette ranges from chamber music , scenic opera performances ( Munich Chamber Opera ), symphony concerts , recitals to musical readings.
